I am Alan Eggleston and E-Messenger Internet Consulting is my company. I've been helping businesses, universities, associations and others  plan out sites and navigation since 1995. I know how websites work, how users approach them, and how to maximize a user’s experience finding and using sites.

I have also dealt with privacy issues since 1995, including a year as a privacy officer for a major corporation. I know the issues and the pitfalls, and I can help you avoid problems.

When you think “the Web” think strategically. Think Alan Eggleston of E-Messenger Internet Consulting. Words are my business.

An Editor Helps You Make Good Decisions

If you ran into a blind alley, how long would you stay there? If your car were almost out of gas, how long would you spend shopping gas stations for the best price? In either case, probably not long.

Both describe a typical experience for Web shoppers and companies conducting business online.

Often websites are so poorly designed users become frustrated and give up trying to navigate them. Other times, in an attempt to comparison shop users become frustrated trying to find the right information between websites. Users will move on to other sites in search of the information they seek. An editor knows, good communications begin with good planning.

What you need from the beginning of creating a website is to think through how the user will operate inside it. What are they looking for and what’s the shortest route to get to it? What would they call what they’re looking for, and where on your site would they logically look for it? Remember, you’re creating your site for someone else to use. Think strategically.

If the user doesn’t know your company’s name or how to spell it, how would they find you? Is your website constructed to optimize their experience using a search engine or directory to find you? If they don’t know you, the only way for them to find you is to use keywords that describe what you offer, as they use various search engines and directories. Do you know what words they will use versus the ones that you would use – remember, you know what your business is about, but they don’t.

I can help you set up your site so it’s easier to find and easier to navigate once users get there. I can help you plan your site and develop it to maximize business opportunities. And I can help you figure out the best words to use on your site and in it for maximum effect.

The newest area for businesses and others is navigating social networking through the various social media. I can help you figure out what sites best suit your needs and how best to integrate your messages across them.
